Hello Ron,
I have a refugium connected to my tank. After several month of activity, the micro-fauna in refugium becomes mono-specific. Indeed, whereas in the main tank, all happens normally, the refugium lost its biodiversity and contains only hundreds amphipods and a particular specie of worms. When I reintroduce, manually, small stars, worms …etc. Systematically, they are made devour by the amphipods. I tried to increase the quantity of food, but I make only reinforce the population of amphipod. I suppose that in the main tank, the population of amphipod is controlled by fish. Would have an idea to restore the biodiversity in my refugium?? I have thought of introducing a goby, a hippocampus or a pistol-shrimp into the refugium, but that will become a second aquarium and lose its vocation of refugium? What do you think of refugium, of their utility and which should they contain?
Sarah
